The Slow Art of Pressing Flowers
Explore the steps of creating pressed flower art in my studio
Collect fresh plant materials from our Derbyshire flower beds
These are usually added to the press straight away to preserve optimum quality of petals and foliage.
Open the press three weeks later
It is always exciting to see what and how time has decided to preserve the original materials. Sometimes they can look strikingly different.
Choose a theme for the next piece of art work
This can be daunting and exhilarating at the same time. I often let the materials to guide me and centre the art around what makes my heart skip a beat.
Finally, create the art piece on premium paper
It can take hours to arrange and glue them to realize the vision, this is probably the most tricky and delicate step. Once the glue is dried, it's ready to be mounted.
